UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction Global Platform
The 2011 Global Platform in Geneva, Switzerland (May 9-13) included a number of events focussed on inter-agency collaboration, Simulations, and a market place forum where the Global Network for DRR pro-actively presented their priority for more community and grass roots level engagement in DRR policy-making and practical life-saving programs.
Amy Hilleboe, DRR advisor at CRS, shared highlights of some our the joint DRR related activities during a side event Success Stories in Inter-Agency Preparedness and the Way Forward.
The UN-IASC report Preparedness: Saves Time, Money and Lives was published during the conference. Amy Hileboe, DRR Advisor for CRS, participated in the Global Platform on behalf of the ECB Project team with a brief presentation during the side event Success Stories in Inter-Agency Preparedness and the Way Forward. Amy prepared the following themes for presentation:
Launching the development of our Practitioner's Guide to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
Simulations training and workshops in Kenya, Urganda, Bolivia, Niger and Bangladesh.
DRR-mainstreaming activities in Bolivia, The Horn of Africa and Bangaldesh.
DRR-advocacy work in Bangladesh and Bolivia
