8 January 2013: “Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) - a fundamental element of building resistance” released by the VOICE network
A few months ago Voluntary Organizations in Cooperation in Emergencies (VOICE)* released a position paper entitled “Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) - a fundamental element of building resistance.” The paper highlights the importance of building resilience in the context of the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters, and the current financial climate, in which investment in long term DRR work makes economic sense. The paper builds on work by the EU over the last year to raise international commitment to DRR and supports some of the key principles highlighted in the new ECB guide Toward Resilience: A Guide to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
