Quality & Accountability critical during the Horn of Africa Crisis
Published on 29 July 2011
The Quality & Accountability network (lead by ALNAP, Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP), People in Aid and the Sphere Project ) have disseminated a joint statement calling for program quality, accountability and effectiveness in the humanitarian response to the Horn of Africa crisis. Latest discussions include a joint training for humanitarian staff on accountability standards, tools, lessons and best practice are under consideration.
Together the Quality & Accountability initiatives " support the humanitarian system in providing accountable programming that meets accepted standards of quality, both in the immediate humanitarian response, and in the development and implementation of organisational and operational strategies for short and long-term recovery and the prevention of future crises. Read the joint statement in full.
The Quality & Accountability network is currently assessing the most effective ways to support agencies with the quality of their programming, accountability to affected populations, and with learning and the application of lessons captured from previous disasters. A joint training on the core standards, tools and lessons, including the Good Enough Guide, is planned for multiple agencies in August. Massimo Altimari, ECB Field Facilitator, is leading discussions in the Horn of Africa to gather feedback on the proposed training. Our Accountability advisors are also sharing regular updates and contact details for staff deployed to the region to strengthen ongoing inter-agency information-sharing.
