Joint Field Processes
Published on 1 May 2010
What is it?
Interagency activities such as joint evaluations and after action reviews at field office level have led to a greater understanding of accountability and impact measurement.
Why is it useful?
Working collaboratively increases peer accountability and transparency, and it helps agencies to learn more from one another, take a collective stance, and coordinate future responses.
Joint evaluations or after action reviews expose agencies' shortcoming to peer angecies and to even a broader audience. These evaluations provide valuable information on the relevance and impact of programs and demonstrate a commitment to transparency and accountability. They also provide a forum for sharing knowledge, resources and tools among peer agencies, and they help to solidify long term cooperative relationships between agencies. Joint evaluations have been conducted in Niger, Indonesia and Guatemala, among others.
Further insights can be found in our ECB paper “What We Know About Joint Evaluations of Humanitarian Action: Learning from NGO Experiences.” (updated May 2010)
