Published on 10 July 2012
In April 2012, members from the ECB Project’s Accountability and Impact Measurement (AIM) Standing Team undertook deployments in Bolivia and Bangladesh to help assess and develop the accountability practices of ECB Project member agencies collaborating in those countries. The Standing Team is a group of skilled agency staff who are available to assist in the implementation of accountability and impact measurement activities. The reports on these recent deployments are now available for download from the ECB Project Resource Library.
In La Paz, Bolivia, Brian Atkinson, ECB AIM Advisor, and Hugh Earp, ECB Shelter Accountability Advisor, facilitated a three-day accountability workshop attended by staff from UN agencies, Bolivian national and international NGOs and government bodies. This report contains their learning from that workshop, a set of recommendations and extensive appendices.
The Bangladesh deployment report, written by AIM Standing Team members Shagufta Jeelani and Saji Varghese, contains summaries of their findings from an assessment of accountability practices in the country, plus reflections on a one-day accountability workshop conducted with staff from a variety of agencies.
Following on from the successful deployments in Bolivia and Bangladesh, the ECB Project consortium in the Horn of Africa has become the third to make a Standing Team request. A terms of reference has been drafted which requests a one-week deployment of two Standing Team members to Kenya commencing on September 24. Activities will include:
- A training on accountability issues using the Good Enough Guide
- An introductory training event on the 5 key elements of accountability
- A training event on how to design an impact measurement system
- In collaboration with ACAPS, training of staff on the importance of proper approaches to affected populations as well as using proper assessment tools and techniques
Further updates on this forthcoming deployment will be made available in the coming months.
