    Published on 7 October 2011

November 2011 – February 2012 will see the first ever series of ECB regional events, in which we share our program and practical learning on humanitarian capacity building with the wider humanitarian sector.

Each two day event will bring together humanitarian professionals from multiple countries and backgrounds, including:

    • National and regional government representatives
    • United Nations
    • Donors
    • National and international NGOs
    • Inter-governmental agencies
    • Humanitarian networks and specialists

    ECB inter-active learning conferences.

    ~ Jakarta, Indonesia, 15-16 November 2011
    ~ La Paz, Bolivia, 28-29 November 2011
    ~ Dhaka, Bangladesh, 7-8 December 2011
    ~ Niamey, Niger, 18-19 January 2012
    ~ Kampala, Uganda, 1-2 February 2012

Please register now for your chosen event.

As well as networking and exploring ideas for future collaboration, participants will share experiences of capacity building. You will learn about the ECB Project’s innovative approaches to developing successful multi-stakeholder collaboration and joint action:

    • Consider the key benefits and challenges of collaboration
    • Understand how ECB Project teams have developed a consortium approach
    • Examine the possibilities of replicating and adapting initiatives in your country and region.
    • Explore consortium building policies and practices

Learning and discussion opportunities will be focused on three core themes:

    • National Staff Capacity Building
    • Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)
    • Accountability to beneficiaries

Workshop and plenary sessions will be based on humanitarian program learning from these ECB themes, with a focus on sharing learning, in a lively context. Each inter-active session will share joint methodologies and tried and tested ECB tools. This event will present opportunities to discuss how these might be applied and adapted to your work. Examples include:

    • Multi-agency simulation tools and learning
    • Highlights from our work with a new management, leadership and core humanitarian skills development programs
    • Experiences of implementing joint advocacy / joint fundraising strategies
    • Creating and implementing inter-agency accountability training (focused on beneficiaries)
    • Details of DRR capacity mapping / DRR mainstreaming activities
    • Practical approaches and learning from our joint needs assessments (JNA) / joint evaluations following recent disasters.

Bob LaPrade, Global Lead for the ECB Project and ECB Principal for CARE, says of the events:

The ECBinter-active events are a fantastic opportunity to learn about collaboration; to understand how it can work in a country consortium context; to experience using some of the ECB project tools and to share your ideas for future partnership.”

    ECB Resources & Learning space

The good news is that if you are not able to participate personally, you can still access all the learning and ideas generated via a new webspace coming soon.

The new enhanced ECB Resources & Learning website space will provide the humanitarian sector with access to new ECB inter-active resources, as well as online versions of major ECB Project tools such as the Simulations Guide. The workshop materials, learning outputs, participant feedback, and short video interview from each event will be made available on the ECB website thereafter.

Wahyu Widayanto, ECB Field Facilitator for ECB Indonesia Consortia, comments:

The ECB inter-active learning conference will generate a huge amount of new learning, collaboration and ideas for participants to develop in the area of humanitarian capacity building”.
