    22 May 2013: ECB Project Advisors attend Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction

    The Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is taking place this week in Geneva, Switzerland. The Fourth session of the platform, which is held every two years, provides a forum for information exchange, discussion about latest developments and knowledge and partnership building across sectors. Managed by the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, the platform aims to improve DRR initiatives through better communication and coordination amongst stakeholders. Read more

    21 May 2013: Cyclone Mahasen update - Joint Needs Assessment ongoing in Bangladesh

    The Assessment Capacities Project (ACAPS), with support from ECB agencies and other stakeholders, under the overall coordination of the Humanitarian Country Task Team (HCTT), is in the process of organizing a joint needs assessment (JNA) in Bangladesh. The JNA will take place in the three affected districts of Patuakhali, Barguna and Bhola, following the impact of cyclone Mahasen. Read more

    20 May 2013: EFSL 48-hour assessment tool - now available in Bahasa Indonesia

    The Emergency Food Security and Livelihoods (EFSL) 48-hour assessment tool, developed by Oxfam GB and the ECB Project agencies, has been translated into Bahasa Indonesia. Read more

    17 May 2013: ECB Project publish new Case Study on Simulations

    The new case study addresses the questions ‘What is a simulation and why use them?’, before focusing on six different simulation types to compare, contrast and draw lessons from. Read more

    16 May 2013: Government, donors and humanitarian community prepare for joint needs assessment after Cyclone Mahasen

    Arout 50 representatives from the donor community and International Non-Governmental Organizations in Bangladesh have held a meeting at the Save the Children office to decide on a response plan for when Cyclone Mahasen makes landfall. Read more

    15 May 2013: Humanitarian agencies prepare for cyclone Mahasen

    ECB Project Agencies and ACAPS representatives are preparing for cyclone Mahasen which according to reports from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department is anticipated will make landfall around the Chittagong area on Thursday 16th May.  Read more

    13 May 2013: Good Enough Guide to Assessments – initial feedback complete

    The Good Enough Guide to Assessments (GEGA) is being designed by the Assessment Capacities Project (ACAPS), using the ‘good enough’ approach, to produce a simple, practical handbook on needs assessments.  As part of the GEGA review process, three ECB Project consortia successfully held consultation workshops to provide feedback on the guide.     9 May 2013: Shelter Accountability Resources

    Over the past eighteen months, the ECB Project agencies have worked with the IASC Shelter Cluster to improve accountability to affected communities within emergency shelter programs. Read more

    8 May 2013: Joint Needs Assessment work continues in Bangladesh

    One of the ECB Project’s goals is to improve accountability to disaster-affected populations. The ECB Project agencies agree that Joint Needs Assessments (JNAs) can improve the timeliness and quality of assessment data, and ensure that the views of people affected by a disaster are appropriately represented.     2 May 2013: The ECB Project’s Niger Consortium planning joint evaluation

    Following the joint needs assessment and advocacy work in Niger after the 2011 food crisis, the ECB Project’s Niger Consortium has decided to conduct a joint evaluation of the response. Read more
