What is the ECB Project?

The Emergency Capacity Building (ECB) Project aim is to improve the speed, quality, and effectiveness of the humanitarian community in saving lives, improving welfare, and protecting the rights of people in emergency situations.

Latest Secondary Data Review for the Horn of Africa Crisis

Developed in partnership with the ACAPS, this secondary data review published in December 2011 highlights the greatest challenges facing the Horn of Africa region. In January 2012 a coordinated needs assessment captured important data on the situation in the Sahel region. This report will be published shortly. ECB Project Case Study Library

As part of the ECB Project's commitment to documenting learning, several case studies have been produced. For example, exploring the Accountability & Impact Measurement Advisory Group's efforts to function as a community of practice, and our experience in Joint Fundraising.

Training and simulations are the best ways to learn proper emergency techniques and test how well we understand them without risking anybody’s well-being or life. The ECB Project does a great service to the humanitarian community, and its beneficiaries, by putting these aspects of staff capacity building at the forefront of agencies’ priorities.

Humanitarian organizations no longer have the luxury, if indeed they ever did, of doing everything solo. Donors increasingly demand, and rightfully so, a cooperative approach, and value for their contributions. Projects like ECB can promote this through building trust, standards and a joint approach to common issues we all face, like staff development, disaster risk reduction and accountability. In the end, it’s all about maximising our impact on the lives of others.
