European Commission - Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO)

ECHO logo newThe Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) is the service of the European Commission responsible for the administering of aid worldwide.  Each year, ECHO funds emergency aid, and food aid worth over €700 million per year.  This funding is delivered through partners and networks, such as the ECB Project.

ECB received approximately €1.1 million (US$1.5 million) of new funding from ECHO to support our planned activities in all three thematic areas – staff capacity, accountability and disaster risk reduction – and across all five country consortia, over the next 18 months. This new ECHO funding will be fully integrated into existing ECB workplans, and constitutes new and vital funding to support our existing aspirations and objectives. We will continually update the site on results and outputs from the funding in the coming months.

Outputs from ECHO Funding in 2010 led by Oxfam GB and World Vision International in 2009-2010

  • Funding ECB agencies to develop Communications tools and materials that will raise awareness of The Good Enough Guide to Accountability and Impact Measurement.
  • Project Published during Phase I of the ECB project, The Good Enough Guide was researched and written by an inter-agency team of experts who identified the need for a simple, pocket-sized guide to the fundamentals of impact measurement and accountability. The guide was made available in English and then translated into multiple languages including French, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi and Bahasa. It is a leading example of how the partnership work and expertise of seven agencies can deliver a product that responds to the needs of not only their own stakeholders, but also numerous other agencies and organizations in the wider humanitarian community.
