ECBinter-active Conference Series
November 2011 – February 2012 saw the first ever series of ECBinter-active regional events, in which for the first time, we shared our program and practical learning on humanitarian capacity building with the wider humanitarian sector. Read conference summaries from Bangladesh, Indonesia, Bolivia, Niger and Uganda.
The most valuable resources for humanitarian agencies in responding to and preparing for emergencies are their local and international staff. Through the ECB Project's Staff Capacity theme, IWG agencies are working to improve the speed and quality of emergency response through improved practice in the recruitment, retention, development and deployment of skilled and experienced staff and teams. ECB has partnered with several other organizations in the humanitarian sector to better understand the challenges and to develop and test innovative solutions.

Humanitarian Staff Development Project

The ECB Project shared self-assessment tools and methods at People in Aid HR conference in Madrid (May 2011).

People in Aid worked in partnership with the ECB Horn of Africa Consortium to deliver a report in March 2010 entitled Addressing Staff Retention in the Horn of Africa
ECB, together with the Consortium of British Humanitarian Agencies (CBHA), recently confirmed a new funding award from the UK Department for International Development (DFID). A new staff capacity building initiative will focus on the creation of a staff development programme and will be piloted and rolled-out in ECB consortia countries from the start of 2010.
The major outputs from ECB's Staff Capacity work in Phase I of the Project are listed below. Click on the links to learn more and access resources.
In ECB Phase II, we continue to test, develop and refine these tools and knowledge products, particularly in the five ECB consortia in Bolivia, Niger, the Horn of Africa, Bangladesh and Indonesia. Visit the ECB Phase II section of this site to learn more.
